1960年代にThe BeatlesのメンバーとしてJohn Lennonと共に楽曲の作詞作曲を多く手掛けたほか、ボーカル兼演奏を担当したPaul McCartney。The Beatles解散後はWingsを結成し、メンバーとして活動したほか、ソロ・ミュージシャンとしての活動も行い、デビューから半世紀以上が過ぎた現在も第一線で活躍を続けています。

1993年にアルバム 'Off the Ground'を発表。'The New World Tour'と題されたこのツアーにおいて、McCartneyは前回のツアーで訪れることのできなかった地域を中心に全世界を回って約1年間公演を行い、その模様をライブ・アルバムとビデオに収めました。当初は日程に組み込まれていなかった日本公演も同年秋に行っています。
